The Top-Opening Ring Solution
Our signature line of Top Open Rings is especially suited for those with enlarged knuckles or swollen fingers. A magnetic lock at the top of the ring allows for an expandable shank. The hinges at the bottom are squared off like a Euro Shank, allowing the ring to expand and conveniently bypass larger knuckles comfortably.
The Penda-Ring Concept
One of our most unique innovations is the "Penda-Ring"—pendants that transform into rings. With the help of a ninety-degree swivel stop hinge, a Ring can be worn as a Pendant.
Kinetic & Transformative Art
Other examples of Shandor's work include kinetic transforming pearl and semi-precious gemstone metamorphose pendants. Like a corkscrew wine bottle opener, two hinges placed strategically cause the bail of the pendant to hinge upward or downward, totally changing the look and design of the piece.
From contemporary hinged bold bangle-bracelets to eye-catching extraordinarily sculpted earrings, these designs continue to stand above and beyond the ordinary.
The History: Evolution of Design
Originally formed in 1999 as Art-Silver (Artsilver.com), the company operates out of Colorado Springs, Colorado, specializing in small-scale production casting and wax design.
Some of Shandor's first concept designs were “Motion rings”. Simply put, these rings had no real purpose other than joy—perhaps a flower petal rotating on a hinge or a wheel spinning for no particular reason. But as Shandor grew, his designs became more complicated. He calls it the “evolution of design.” On average, he designs 5-10 new prototype concepts per year.
“I try to listen to customers, and sometimes ideas and demands of customers manifest in my new prototypes,” says Shandor.
The Pivot to Hinged Rings
In 2005, after showing his hinged multiform designs at his first Sugarloaf craft show in Gaithersburg, MD, a customer asked a pivotal question: ”Can you make rings that hinge over the finger?”
This particular customer had difficulty wearing traditional jewelry due to swollen joints. That was the year the first Hinged Adjustable Ring was born. Initially like a mini bracelet composed of a simple door latch system with two hinges, the design evolved rapidly. This led to many new ideas for ring lock systems, with the magnetic lock becoming the most popular.
In 2011, Shandor decided to dedicate this specific concept to a new website: www.ArthritisRings.com.
